Well, I just couldn’t start my Design Trend Series without first addressing the newest color trend.... 

GRAY.

Not just for prison walls or cloudy days.  

Gray is everywhere you look. Gray is a mainstream color trend, and an influencer of trends.

The latest Sundance Catalog features a charming woman...

No, not me, another charming woman…
in her Gray Duster Cardigan, in a Gray forest of Aspens, and holding,
wait for it...
a beautiful Gray Horse…

ahh, be still my heart…
this cowgirl is in heaven!

Gray has even trickled down to the mass merchandising stores. Check out this delightful Better Homes and Gardens vignette. Notice the Gray modular affordable credenza, weathered gray wood walls, which add texture, and completed with additional textures in the silver metal, gold metal - yes, I said gold - and topped off with a fresh clean white.

My Custom Cabinet Company, introduced a whole line of new gray finishes, The Stoney Brook Collection.
Promising to “Awaken Your Senses”,  the collection is inspired by nature, featuring warm browns to grays. Kristi Brown, product manager for Elkay, says

“The trend is shifting away from the orange/red shades towards a warmer brown/gray tone.
These new options are sure to bring a warmth and distinction to any home.”

Is this just a passing phase?
How long will it last?
Is Gray the New Beige?
(Beige…I think I’ll paint the ceiling Beige…)

I recently attended an industry conference from the SEN Design Group and listened to another of the industry experts, from Dura Supreme Cabinetry, and the Grays started, nearly 10 years ago, in the market in Cool Gray tones, and the trend is now towards more Warm Grays with Brown undertones.
